formal dresses online need more information for size charts. Sizes very widely across different stores, and sometimes, sending back the wrong size can be a major hassle.
So what’s a shopper to do when it comes to choose dresses and making sure that sizes fits? A handful of tips will lead you in the right direction and help you choose the right size every time:
1. Measure Yourself
Measure your bust, waist, and hips. You can do this by measuring around your chest for bust, around your belly button for waist, and around your hip bones for your hip measurements. Write down your numbers and keep them handy when you’re ready to start buying clothes online.
The below is just a guide. We recommend that whenever possible you get a qualified seamstress to measure your dress size. Always get someone else to make the measurements for you: measuring yourself will give inaccurate numbers and could lead to disappointment. Measure with undergarments similar to those you will wear with your dress; do not measure over other clothing.
Bust
Not your bra size! Take the tape around your back and bring it across the fullest part of your bust. Your arms should be relaxed, down at your sides. You must wear a bra when taking this measurement.
Waist
This is the smallest part of your waist. Typically it`s an inch or so above your belly button. Also known as the natural waistline.
Hips
This is the widest part of your hips, across the hipbone. Measurement is taken approximately 7 inches below the natural waistline. This measurement is not needed for full gowns.
Hollow to Floor
This is the length from your hollow ( the hollow just under your neck ) to your heels. (Take the tape from your front, with bare foot ). You should stand upright and your feet should keep together.
Shoulder
Shoulder - From the edge of the shoulder socket, measure across the back to the same point on the other shoulder.
Arm Length
Arm Length - Measure from your shoulder point to the wrist.
Armscye
Measure from the top of the shoulder, down the front of the shoulder, under the arm pit, and up the back of the shoulder.
